To make a better community, folks need to come together and commit themselves to the welfare of other humans.

That’s why volunteering is necessary, as it creates a positive impact on society. Volunteers selflessly care for others without any expectations, and they dedicate their time and make efforts to ease the sufferings of fellow beings.

While individuals do this volunteering act due to their own interest, NGOs (Non-Governmental Organizations), non-profit firms, have their group of like-minded members who join together and serve their community.

Apart from these, many service and product-oriented companies also take part in improving society through offering various volunteering services.
This article is about one such company, SAIL, which dedicates selflessly to the social welfare of the people.

Steel Authority of India (SAIL) is one of the central public sector enterprises which is under the ownership of the Ministry of Steel, Government of India.

Being the largest government-owned steel production enterprise, the primary focus of SAIL is not just on the production, revenues and employees, but also to effectively plan and implement various welfare schemes for the public and society.

SAIL’s Support During the Pandemic
COVID-19, a pandemic which stirred the entire world, incredibly increased every day and impacted the lives of people.
In those hard times, SAIL manned hospitals with qualified doctors, ensured providing adequate beds and oxygen supply facilities for the patients and developed medical testing centres along with the government.

Also, SAIL units distributed necessary items like food, aprons, face masks, and medical products for the people who were affected due to the financial crisis.

SAIL Volunteering Initiative
Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Minister of Steel, Petroleum and Natural Gas, on January 22, 2020, launched SERVICE (SAIL Employees Rendering Volunteerism & Initiatives for Community Engagement), a volunteering portal for SAIL employees.

The motive of this initiative was for to indulge the employees in volunteer acts like societal, environmental, health, education, women empowerment and welfare of senior services, etc.

Around 29,000 volunteers from SAIL have registered on the SERVICE portal to offer their volunteering services. The numbers are increasing day by day as employees are encouraged by SAIL to become responsible volunteers.

To sum up, society needs a robust support system for its development. This cannot be achieved by a single man. Thus, individuals should engage themselves with NGOs and organizations like SAIL, which prioritize the welfare of the public and encourage involvement in volunteering activities.
