Afterall, we (humans) are just a species!

Article written by Preeti

Afterall, we (humans) are just a species!
Humans”, the most unpredictable species. So many trees have been cut down for the sake of humans. Thinking of a world without oxygen is unimaginable. Have you ever thought of the Earth without “human species”? Just imagine how it will be! There would not be any animals, plants, birds or insects’ species extinct due to humans. Within few weeks, plants will begin to take over apartments/buildings and wildlife will start to bloom, re-colonize towns and cities. Endangered animals will get a chance and space to multiply themselves again. Global warming, temperature and sea levels will begin to fall. Oceans, rivers and seas might become clear. The world will completely thrive without electricity. Soil will rejuvenate and fertile, and this list could go on!

Do we really need such a fast forward drastic development? Why do we need this much development, or should I say destruction of nature in the name of development? We too, like the others around, are just another species. Why can’t we also live in one with nature, together, without changing her, and instead changing our own nature in order to harmonize and connect with her like other creatures live? Why can’t we grow plants, trees and build a forest the way our ancestors did, rather than creating cities and towns? Why can’t we be satisfied with what we have!! Renovate or create something new out of old instead of craving for newer things? It’s time we think more consciously in a conservative manner.

Everything in this world is based upon the five elements gifted by our Mother Earth. Without sky, all living creature would die. There would be no rains, no winds, no fire and no ozone layer (which is what is acting as a protective shield layer against harmful chemicals and radiations that we ourselves are generating through our actions, our own deeds.) We are digging our own grave, aren’t we?! Think about it!

If we continue our greed and live unsatisfied, we will ultimately land up with “no life”. Why are we choking our breath with our own hands? Suffocating our gifted life from Mother Nature with our own karma.

For everyone loves a mother. We write poems, stories and create movies to celebrate them. What does that mean!!? Is it the word that really matters to us or the person? The way we reciprocate our love towards our biological mothers is the same love we should reciprocate to our Mother Earth, which is where we fail as humans! We are indebted to her, just like we are to our biological mothers. If we can’t contribute or give back to Mother Earth, at least we do is not destruct her! Mother Earth treats all species equally. We don’t have the rights to harm and make Mother Earth suffer. In fact, as a species, we are given more freedom, at the very least we should respect, behave ourself and minimize our greed’s and stigma to our “Human Species”.

A major issue is the ever-growing human population, which does not align with the growth of other species like trees or animals. If the human population is not controlled, we will likely end up exhausting our resources. I can’t help but think of the olden days where people use to ride through bicycles, which causes less air pollution, but in this modern world, the air we breathe is harmful and not just to us. Those day, the sound of birds would make mornings so fresh, happy, joyful and energetic, but nowadays, we only hear the noise of cars, people fights and construction and everything unpleasant which has caused plenteous harm to all forms of life.

As a wise man said- HISTORY repeats itself. Let’s change our today and create a new era, with a change in mindset, without repeating our mistakes.

Never forget to worship the five powerful elements gifted by our Mother Earth. i.e., Sky, Air,Water, Fire and Soil.

“Afterall, we (humans) are just a species!”

Inside a Writer’s Mind

A Confession.

Article written by Nazia Tabasum A

This article is about how every writer feels inside their minds and I would like to elaborate those feelings through my favourite poem, that I wrote.

Troubled Writers

There are certain problems that only writers may know,

They suffer from flooded thoughts, that fall like snow

Others may think that they are the most silent,

Not knowing the storms inside their heads which they supress

They excel in writing when their emotions are at peak,

Struggles with writer’s block, makes them feel weak

Sometimes, thinking about the contents to write, they lose their sleep

Finally, crossing all these problems, their words come out deep

*****

There are certain problems that only writers may know

They suffer from flooded thoughts, that fall like snow…

Although it’s cool to be called a writer, there are many struggles that they go through.

Thoughts of writers are always occupied and they observe even the minute events and incidents happening around them and use those as their themes.

Others may think that they are the most silent,

Not knowing the storms inside their heads which they supress…

Most of the writers are introverts and they show interest in listening to stories rather than doing verbal communication. Since they have a lot of patience in listening and empathizing, they mostly get unheard at times.

Through their writings, they show their emotions, but there is always a hesitation for them, even to open up to their close circles.

They excel in writing when their emotions are at peak,

Struggles with writer’s block, makes them feel weak…

Writer’s block is a threat to writers. Empty minds and blank pages always drain their energy, but they still cope by portraying their writings well when they are completely in an emotional mode.

Sometimes, thinking about the contents to write, they lose their sleep…

There is no time frame for thinking, especially for writers. Most of them get ideas especially at night and to convert those thoughts to writings, they are even ready to sacrifice their sleep.

Finally, crossing all these problems, their words come out deep…

Writers are always underestimated. Amidst critics and comments, they make immense efforts to write quality writings that not only convey how they feel, but also describe the emotions of readers along the way.

Hope these facts can give a clear picture about how every writer feels and what’s inside their minds.

Tender Roots

Do you spare time for your parents?

Article written by Nazia Tabasum A

Movies help us to forget our stress, serve as a mode of entertainment. I am not a person who loves action, fiction and other sci-fi movies. My selection always includes realistic stories and emotional movies that make an impact, provoke my thoughts and provide ample life lessons.

It’s been seven years since a brilliant, light-hearted bollywood movie “Piku“, released in the year 2015. But the impact it has created will always be etched in my heart.

This article is definitely not a review, but rather conveys the important lesson that this movie has taught.

“Piku” emphasizes how our parents need to be cared for during their old age. This is a common fact and everyone is aware of it. Though, sometimes we need these kinds of movies to correlate this fact more clearly in an emotional way.

This dialogue conveys the core of this article. “It’s the responsibility of children to take care of their parents during their old age because they struggle to do that all alone.”

At a certain age, our parents need the most attention and care from their grown-up kids. But how many adults are sparing time for their parents?

We are quite busy with our digital gadgets and never take time to think about how much our parents need our companionship.

Although few really care. Like Piku’s character in this movie.

She takes a long break from her busy work schedule to spend quality time with her aged father.

She even fulfills her dad’s desire by accepting to travel on the road instead of flight.

Quits her plan to sell the property because of the unwillingness of her father.

Conveys to her friend about the importance of not judging parents and painfully expresses how much she misses her dad after his loss.

We are ready to sacrifice our sleep for late night work, prioritize our life partners and kids, even adjust our busy schedules to meet friends and relatives. Although we are worried about our parents, show appropriate concern about their health issues, and provide them with all the comfortable facilities, we still don’t pay much attention to spend quality time with them.

We think that social media can relieve our parents’ loneliness but forget to understand that those digital things, will never become their emotional attachments on our behalf.

An Art of Duties

Knowing right difference.

Article written by Nazia Tabasum A

This thought provoking scene from one of my favourite movies, ‘English Vinglish‘, well portrays the reality of how women are always underestimated, no matter the efforts they make throughout their lives.

PC : shayri.page

In particular, homemakers, who are the pillars of every family, deserve a lot of respect and encouragement. But, in reality, they are the most who are always unappreciated.

The rest of the family thinks that a woman is a sole responsible for taking care of the home and it is her duty to cook, clean and manage other chores.

They never think about the difficulties she faces while handling those responsibilities, amidst of tiredness, criticisms and mood swings.

Inside the four walls, she tries hard to give her best, but her efforts are always considered as her duty.

Eating that small piece of her favourite cake, having dinner finally after serving others, washing dishes while the rest of the family watches her favourite movie: These are not her duties, yet she makes all these sacrifices because family is her priority.

But does she get the same importance in return? Maybe the past and current generations have failed to understand, but, hope in future, there may be chances to prove that the responsibilities every woman manages, are not just mere duties, but a beautiful art that she does with peculiarity.

Panic attacks - A Silent Killer

Have you ever faced it?

Article written by Nazia Tabasum A

We are getting advanced day by day in the technology, science and medicine fields. But at the same time, all this fast-paced advancement gives us stress, anxiety and depression.

The above three are not the same, but they are related to each other. Few find it fancy to label themselves as being depressed and stressed, not knowing about the difference between all these emotions.

  • Stress occurs when there is something that needs to be completed within deadlines.
  • Anxiety happens when fear turns into overthinking.
  • And finally, depression comes when the appetite for life is gone.

When any of these emotions gets uncontrollable,  people stumble to handle them and that intense fear leads to panic attacks.

To know more about the symptoms, https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/panic-attacks/symptoms-causes/syc-20376021

A sudden feeling of dizziness, getting nervous, a sense of trembling and fear of losing control are the major signs of having panic attacks. Sometimes, if all these symptoms start gradually and continue to prolong, it is also known as anxiety attacks.

During the pre-era, all these emotions were generally labelled as sadness. But in this century, there are improvised methods to find out the occurrence of these emotional triggers as well as to know what kind of reaction a human body undergoes while suffering with these panic attacks.

“Sometimes panic might start in your body itself, and then create processes within your brain. Other times, your brain could initiate the entire onset of a panic attack, which then manifests itself in your body,” says says Justin Feinstein PhD, a clinical neuropsychologist and director of the Float Clinic and Research Center at the Laureate Institute for Brain Research in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

We are busy checking our social medias, binge watching and online shopping, but do not bother to know the right differences between all these kinds of negative emotions that we go through.

Hence, if you ever face stress, anxiety, depression or panic attacks, start giving proper attention and try to identify the cause, rather than bearing silently.

Pandemic - Adapted Changes

An Overview

Article written by Nazia Tabasum A

COVID 19 - An epidemic outbreak that started in Wuhan- China, is still ruling our world, taking many lives and disrupting normal life.

We have all gone through difficult times and some are still going through many things from losing loved ones, becoming financially unstable and losing peace. Lockdowns, curfews, wearing masks, sanitizing and maintaining social distance have become this epidemic’s trend.

The hardest part we suffered were those times when the pandemic hit a peak and various variants started to spread. People were forced to stay at home and they were forcefully distanced when they got infected.

It’s almost been three years since this COVID and we are still hearing various news about deaths and illness around the world.

This article list outs important facts that this pandemic has brought.

1. Family is the most important wealth. At times of fear, our family’s support comforted us more than any other materialistic things.

2. We had many volunteers who served the country by taking risks to save others’ lives.

3. There was a considerable rise in social services that helped to ease people’s hunger and also provided employment opportunities.

4. Through this pandemic, there was a chance to find advanced medicines and vaccines to cope with this invisible virus.

5. We are now perfectly adapted to our new norms and new work routines and organisations are still opting to work from home to cut costs.

6. Everything has become digital. We prefer contactless delivery for online shopping.

7. We never forget to wear masks during social gatherings. Safety has become our highest priority.

8. This lockdown served as a phase to learn different skills. An engineer turned into a chef and a sports person got well-versed in coding.

9. We have become too addicted to the social media and they have become our best companions.

10. Life is uncertain. A healthy person also becomes a victim of this pandemic and we have now learnt not to take our lives for granted and cultivated the habit of gratitude.

We are still not sure about when this virus crisis will end but the changes it has caused will be always remembered for ever.

Sharing is Caring

A common phrase but with deep meaning.

Article written by Nazia Tabasum A

Sharing is caring - We have been taught this habit right from our childhood. As days go on, this ideology is subsequently followed more by women than compared with men.

Straight to the point, it is sad to hear that older generations still think that men are considered superior in a family and their major part is to manage finance and expenses.

Every man has a desire to build his dream house but he doesn’t contribute enough to make it a home.

Most men in a family feel disrespected when they are asked to share the workloads at home. They have a thought that home chores should only be taken care of by their partners and lending a supportive hand makes them feel inferior.

At the same time, it is great to see the changes happening nowadays in this century. A wife equally supports family by managing expenses and a husband also understands her pressures and he equally contributes in managing the home.

Our society lauds these kinds of supportive men who share the home responsibilities, but the same society doesn’t appreciate women who simultaneously manage their work and family.

Looks like a biased topic? Not at all. This article is not intended to point out, rather it emphasizes that men should also play a role in managing their home, as well as reminds that by sharing the responsibilities, they can help to lessen women’s burden.

Power of Interdependence

Inspired from a story

Article written by Nazia Tabasum A and Asma Farheen A

We humans have a tendency to get inspiration through stories. A message from my dad this morning, popped up on my WhatsApp and that inspired me to write this article.

Here is that beautiful story.

A young girl and her father were walking along a forest path.

At some point, they came across a large tree branch on the ground in front of them.

The girl asked her father, “If I try, do you think I could move that branch?”

Her father replied, “I am sure you can, if you use all your strength.”

The girl tried her best to lift or push the branch, but she was not strong enough and she couldn’t move it.

She said, with disappointment, “You were wrong, dad. I can’t move it.”

Try again with all your strength,” replied her father.

Again, the girl tried hard to push the branch. She struggled but it did not move.

Dad, I cannot do it,” said the girl.

Finally, her father said, “Young lady, I advise you to use ‘all your strength’. You didn’t.

You didn’t ask for my help.

Moral :

Our real strength lies not in independence, but in interdependence.

To ask for help and support when we need it is not a sign of weakness, it is a sign of wisdom.

~~~
That’s the end of the story with an insightful moral.
We talk proudly about independence but this one is a rare topic.
Now, you would have got an idea what exactly interdependence means. To say precisely, interdependence is a mutual dependence between things.
A best example would be marriage. Couples are dependent on each other with mutual understanding.
Likewise, your kids, your parents, friends, colleagues and even a stranger you meet, either they or us are interdependent someway or another.
Especially while facing any problems in our life, we hesitate to share and get support from others.
Although we are capable of handling things, at certain times, we need dependence. When we are confused and stuck, others’ advice or opinion is much required.
Being independent is a sign of liberty, but being interdependent can help you live with morality.
As described in the story, asking for help needs courage and that’s where our strength lies.
So, if you are stuck at any phase of your life, approach others without any hesitation. That will be the wisest decision you will ever make in your life.
Finding Joy in the Ordinary
Little things don’t matter.
Article written by Nazia Tabasum A
The journey looks beautiful, only if there is an enthusiasm. We all love long trips, as it gives us more excitement. But have we ever taken time to enjoy our routine travel?
I remember the days when I travelled to office in cab. I will be watching the moments outside, while the rest of my cabmates will be mostly engaged with their mobiles.
From the time the journey starts and till it ends, I will keenly observe different kinds of emotions that people on the paths show. There will be expressions of laughs, sadness, joy, affection, frustration and sometimes even tears.
I will also enjoy watching the sunrise, sunset, lakes, clouds, trees and colorful wildflowers during every routine trip.
Through this article, I want to emphasize the importance of noticing little things. Those alone can give the joy that we always desire.
Materialistic things can temporarily make us happy. But the search for happiness begins again, once those things are attained.
We forget that there is a lot of beauty and peace in ordinary things. And that’s why we are not paying attention to those.
Anyone can love a rose, but it takes a lot to love a leaf. It’s ordinary to love the beautiful, but it’s beautiful to love the ordinary.
This is not just a quote, but a subtle rule for leading a prosperous and satisfied life.
